SCTDD Economic Development

The Economic Development division of the SCTDD assists communities and businesses in our 13-county region in fostering a pro-business environment that will allow for the healthy growth and development of the private sector businesses. We work closely with county and city officials to create economic opportunities for individuals and promote the advancement of the region as a whole, as well as working with individual businesses in the region to promote expansion and job retention.

One of our main functions is to assist communities and businesses to access various state and local grant and loan programs to facilitate the location and expansion of businesses that can create employment opportunities for residents of the area. We have a corporation, South Central Tennessee Business Development Corporation, that is licensed by Small Business Administration (SBA) to make loans under the Section 504 Program.

Economic development includes activities that provide additional employment opportunities, increase tax revenues and/or improve the overall business climate of the area.

Regionalist

The SCTDD provides an integrated approach to the region’s economic development and ensures the region’s long-term economic vitality. Our mission is to be a resource for industry leaders, chambers of commerce, elected officials, developers and working citizens in our district’s 13 counties.

We provide assistance to local governments, organizations, businesses and individuals in securing federal, state and private funding through grants, as well as assist community groups in identifying community needs and sources of grant and loan funds. We then research those grants, loans and other mechanisms to assist in project funding.

One of our most important functions is to provide assistance to businesses that have the potential to create or retain employment. We serve as a resource to federal and state agencies, including:

  • Economic Development Authority
  • Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development
  • Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development
  • Tennessee Valley Authority
  • USDA Rural Development
